What does a pediatrician do?

Pediatrics, the branch of medicine focused on the medical care and general wellbeing of children under the age of eighteen, concentrates on a wide range of care. From preventative medicine for children in good health to continuous care for the chronically ill, pediatricians manage all aspects of health for a child at every stage of development, including mental, physical, and emotional health. If you have an ill child or want to do everything you can to help your child live a long and healthy life, a pediatrician can assist at every stage of development from newborns to adolescents.

Not just involved with the immediate care of the ill, pediatricians are dedicated to improving the long-term quality of life for a child. As the difference between an adult and child go far beyond the physiological variances, pediatricians understand the nuances and subtleties of children, including the increased attention that must be given to genetic variance, developmental issues, and congenital defects. Of course, as the legal guardian of your child, your pediatrician will be more than happy to explain all the details of your child’s health, including medications, results of examinations, and next steps.

Pediatricians diagnose, treat, and care for several different conditions common to children, including but not limited to:

  • Common injuries and infection
  • Genetic and congenital conditions
  • Cancers
  • Organ Diseases and dysfunctions
