VIK Complete Care recently partnered with Highland Lakes Camp in Spicewood, Texas, to provide CPR training and emergency preparedness education for camp staff, reinforcing the importance of life-saving skills and community safety.
Held on May 26, 2026, the training brought together 45 camp staff members, including Camp Director Steven Gaither and Head Nurse Bobby Mataska, for hands-on instruction focused on recognizing emergencies, initiating CPR, and understanding the critical role rapid response can play during medical emergencies.
The event highlighted the value of preparedness and continuing education, particularly for organizations responsible for the health and safety of large groups of individuals. Staff members actively participated in the training, learning skills that could make a difference when responding to emergencies both inside and outside the camp environment.

“At VIK Complete Care, we believe emergency preparedness begins long before an emergency occurs,” said Shauna Tripp, Regional Marketing Liaison for the Austin market. “Providing CPR education and training opportunities within our communities helps empower individuals with the confidence and knowledge needed to respond when every second matters. We are proud to partner with organizations like Highland Lakes Camp that prioritize the safety and well-being of those they serve.”
Highland Lakes Camp has long been committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for campers and staff. The CPR training provided an opportunity for participants to strengthen their emergency response skills while reinforcing the camp’s ongoing focus on preparedness.
“The safety of our campers and staff is always our highest priority,” said Steven Gaither, Camp Director of Highland Lakes Camp. “Opportunities like this CPR training help ensure our team is prepared, confident, and equipped to respond when emergencies arise. We are grateful to VIK Complete Care for investing their time and expertise into our staff and helping strengthen our commitment to safety.”
Steven Gaither oversees daily operations and programming for Highland Lakes Camp, helping foster a culture centered on safety, leadership, and personal growth.
Head Nurse Bobby Mataska, who attended the training, plays an important role in overseeing the health and wellness needs of campers and staff throughout the camp season.
“In healthcare and emergency response, preparation matters,” said Bobby Mataska, Head Nurse at Highland Lakes Camp. “CPR training helps ensure that staff members are ready to respond during critical moments when every second counts. It was encouraging to see such strong participation and engagement from our team throughout the training.”
The event also highlighted the strong community relationships built through outreach and education. Through community outreach initiatives such as CPR training, VIK Complete Care continues to extend its mission beyond emergency medical treatment by helping educate and prepare organizations throughout the communities it serves.

“CPR is one of the most important skills an individual can learn because it empowers ordinary people to take action during extraordinary circumstances,” said Dr. Daniel MacAlasdair, Medical Director of VIK Complete Care. “Community education and preparedness initiatives like this help create safer environments and strengthen our ability to respond effectively when emergencies occur.”
VIK Complete Care remains committed to supporting schools, camps, businesses, and community organizations through educational initiatives that promote health, safety, and emergency preparedness throughout the region.
