STAR ER, a Complete Care facility and 24-hour emergency care provider in Lubbock, supported the seventh annual Hope for Minds Color Run Walk Roll on August 22 at Lubbock Cooper High School, joining local families, runners, volunteers, and community partners in support of children affected by brain injuries.
The family-focused and accessible event invited participants to run, walk, or roll through a colorful 5K course. The morning also included a Touch a Truck experience featuring emergency response vehicles and other community resources.
Hope for Minds, formerly known as Team Luke Hope for Minds, works to enrich the lives of children with brain injuries while providing hope and support to their families. The organization connects families with education, therapeutic services, adaptive equipment, financial assistance, and other resources that can help them navigate the challenges of pediatric brain injury.
The organization has a meaningful connection to Lubbock through the legacy of Luke Siegel. After Luke sustained a serious brain injury, his father, Tim Siegel, recognized the need for greater support for children with brain injuries and their families. That experience helped inspire Team Luke, which later became Hope for Minds and expanded its mission to assist families across the country.
The STAR ER team supported participants by distributing water, cooling towels, and sunscreen throughout the event. Team members also operated one of the color stations, spraying runners with color as they moved through the course and helping keep the community cool, colorful, and hydrated.
Tracie Nichols, Nurse Manager and Marketing Representative, and Tresa Hull, Patient Access Supervisor, represented STAR ER during the event. STAR ER team members Veronica Carmona, Kristen Castillo, and Justin Bonham also participated in the 5K. Members of the Lubbock Cooper High School Pom Squad added to the excitement by cheering for participants along the course.

STAR ER’s participation reflects its continued commitment to community outreach and partnerships that support the health and well-being of Lubbock families.
