ER Medical Director
Michael Magoon, M.D.
Dr. Michael Magoon is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and has more than 20 years of Emergency Medicine experience. He has been accepted as a “Fellow” in both the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Magoon has worked at Wilford Hall USAF and Brooke Army trauma centers, Baptist and Methodist Emergency Departments, and the Shannon West Texas trauma center in San Angelo.
Dr. Magoon graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Physiology from Michigan State University, and completed his Medical Doctorate at Wayne State University in Detroit. After completing an Internship at the renowned Detroit Medical Center, Dr. Magoon trained in Emergency Medicine at Brooke Army and Wilford Hall USAF medical centers in San Antonio. Subsequently, Mike completed the UT Southwestern Teaching Fellowship, and taught Emergency Medicine at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. While in the Air Force, Dr. Magoon was recognized as one of two worldwide “subject matter experts” in Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Magoon has extensive experience in pre-hospital care; including training with Counter Narcotics Task Force in Washington D.C and the National Association of EMS Physicians. He served as the Medical Director for Lackland AFB EMS, and as the Assistant Medical Director for the San Antonio AirLife Helicopter Rescue program. Mike has taught Emergency Medicine and pre-hospital care to medical residents, Paramedics, Flight Nurses, P.A.s, and Nurse Practitioners.
Numerous other awards have been awarded to Dr. Magoon and our Alamo Heights team, including recognition in Texas Monthly as a “Texas Super Doctor” in 2012, 2013, 2014; voted by SA Magazine as “Best ER Doctor” in 2012, 2013, and 2014, as well as “Best General Practice Physician” in 2012, 2013, and 2014; and SA Scene as “Best ER Doctor” and “Best General Practice Physician” in 2014 and 2015.
The Magoon’s have lived in San Antonio since 1990, and have made their home in Alamo Heights. We are so proud of our outstanding team of clinicians, and look forward to continued service to Alamo Heights community.

Designated Safe Baby Location
If you have a newborn that you’re unable to care for, you can bring your baby to a designated safe place with no questions asked. Under the Baby Moses Law, parents are allowed to surrender their babies younger than 60 days at a hospital, fire station, free standing emergency center, or EMS station. You can find this law in the Texas Family Code, Chapter 262, Sub-chapter D. Emergency Possession of Certain Abandoned Children.
