Signs Your Child May Need Pediatric Emergency Care

pediatric emergency careWhile it is, thankfully, rare for a child to suddenly suffer a major injury or illness, there are times when children need pediatric emergency care. Here are some signs that you may need to get your child to your nearest Complete Care facility as quickly as possible.

Pediatric Care Near You

In order to have the best chance of preventing an injury or illness from becoming a life-threatening situation, it is important to recognize the signs of a problem so that you can get your child the pediatric emergency care he or she may need.

For example, if the child suddenly starts acting in a strange manner, or becomes either less alert or more withdrawn, he or she should get immediate medical care. Likewise, seek medical attention if the child is either unconscious or unresponsive, or experiences the rhythmic jerking that indicates a seizure is taking place. If his or her lips or skin have a gray, purple or blue tint, or there is neck stiffness accompanied with a fever or rash, get help right away.

Whether your child is showing any of the symptoms mentioned above or has suffered a serious injury, there is a chance that his or her life could be in danger.

Have a Pediatric Emergency Plan

Speak with your pediatrician and put together an action plan should an emergency occur. One important part of any emergency plan is knowing basic first aid as well as CPR. There should be classes in these areas held in your area on a regular basis. Contact your local chapter of the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross to learn more.
